One of the major dental esthetic and functional problem that occurs frequently in patients is due to gingival recession leading to exposure of the root surface along with pain, sensitivity, plaque retention, gingivitis, loss of attachment, and root caries posing a challenge for the clinicians. The root coverageprocedures are indicated for aesthetic purposes, for reducing hypersensitivity, and for enhancing keratinized tissue. Numerous techniques have been established to treat the gingival recession either single or multiple defects including restorative, orthodontic and surgical options. The surgical root coverage modalities are free gingiva graft, subepithelial connective tissue graft, lateral repositioned flap, double papilla flap, semilunar flap, coronally advanced flap, guided tissue regeneration (GTR), pouch and tunnel technique, and pinhole technique. The management choice depends on the size and number of the recession defects, quantity and quality of keratinized tissues, the width and height of the interdental papillae, the presence of frenum pull, and the depth of the vestibule, as well as the patient aesthetic and functional demands.Various techniques have been proposed in the literature with the attempt of treating gingival recession with uneven predictable results. The goal of this case report was to evaluate the effectiveness of lateral pedicle flap technique with respect to root coverage. The result obtained was total root coverage with laterally positioned flap technique for the treatment of recession defect in mandibular tooth with complete remission of dentine hypersensitivity and excellent esthetic and functional outcomes.
