According to the results of the general census of population and housing in 2016, the population of the country was 79926270 people, of which 26% lived in rural areas. Agricultural land area of the country is 16.5 million hectares, which is 92% in rural areas. The country's cropping land area is 14.7 million hectares, with 93 percent in rural and garden lands of 1.8 million hectares, 89 percent of which are located in rural areas. The nation's nomadic community consists of 212660 families with a population of 1186830 people. 51.3% of the people in this community are men and the rest are women. 63% of 6-year-olds and most of the nomadic population are literate and the rest are illiterate. The literacy rate in men is 70.9% and in women 54.8%. Of the 961,377 10-year-olds and more in nomadic societies, 713,425 (74.2%) are active population. The livelihood of nomadic migrantsand more than 50% of rural people are dependent on livestock farming, and their main livelihoods are based upon the use of natural resources and post-harvest byproducts for their livestock and poultry, so paying attention to their livelihood's income resources is the key for sustainable development and poverty alleviation.
