Abstract

The aim of this study to investigate the effect of different storage condition on the physico-chemical and microbial quality of selected Sachet Water sold within Zaria metropolis. Three different brands of sachet water were purchased at random and subjected to different storage conditions (stored on floor, table and inside fridge) upon which microbial and physicochemical parameters were analyzed at interval of 3 weeks for a period of 3 months based on APHA et al., (2017) Standard methods and Procedures. Immediately, the sachet water was purchased from the distributors, microbial and physicochemical parameters were analyzed for each sample which serve as a control. All the physicochemical parameters fall within the recommended limits set by WHO (2017) and SON (2007) for Drinking Water. The presences of pathogenssuch as ProteusSp, AermonasspAspergillusFumigatus, Aspergillusniger, Penicillium glabrum, Fusarium oxysporum, Cephalosporiumcurtipes, Oidiodendron griseum, Rhizoctonia solani and Trichodermaviride recorded from the samples examined can cause wide range of infections such as chronic pulmonary aspergillosis and life-threatening system infections that can involve multiple organs collapse (Invasive aspergillosis) in patient with mild immunodefiency.occurrence of A. Fumigatus, A.nigerin the sachet water indicate that the water is not safe for human consumption and harmful to human health. To safeguard  the health of  the consumers, there is need for regular monitoring of theproduction and quality by Agency in charged.
