The Covid-19 pandemic is a challenge in many ways; keeping us safe from infection certainly impactson our lives and our routines. New patterns emerged due to restrictions, lockdowns and safety measures and have transformed our habits, including our shopping ones. It is well known (Psychiatry, Psychology) that that buying things provides pleasure and makes people happy. Therefore, shopping is beneficial to both our mental health and, subsequently, to our immunity. But the “urge to splurge” in time of pandemic has certainly brought to light different behaviours in that regard, such as compulsive shopping, revenge buying and emotional spending. The psychology behind these trends explains how we have changed the way we buy and we shop. Observing these modifications certainly shows a major increase in online shopping and e-commerce (especially via phone), a poor loyalty to brands and stores, a shift to value, the dedication of a personal budget to stay buzzy and healthy at home but also a different way to consider holidays. Based on these discoveries and knowing the pandemic is still ongoing, we question what to expect in 2023 and the future.
