Abstract

Education is an integral part of our lives. According to Kumar (2016), it is important for the personal, social and economic development of the nation as it enables students to do the analysis while making life decisions. In the article by Roseret.al., it was mentioned that increasing access to education is important but in reality the actual goal of providing schooling is to teach skills and transfer knowledge to students. Quality education is aimed by every student and academic institution. Just like any organization, educational institutions strive their way to being competitive. To achieve this, productivity and efficiency should be addressed, and wastes of should be eliminated. One effective tool for uplifting the competitiveness of an organization is Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma Methodology. Both are effective tools, not only for manufacturing but also for services and education since both of them finds their own way of improvement. Lean Six Sigma can be applied to facilitate process improvements in curriculum delivery, facilitate process improvements in curriculum delivery, admissions and enrolment management and research. It drives customer satisfaction and bottom-line results by reducing variation, waste, and cycle time, while promoting the use of work standardization and flow, thereby creating a competitive advantage. It applies anywhere variation and waste exist, and every employee should be involved. All industries are founded on processes, and all processes can improve even if that improvement is only slight. But even so, any improvement especially in education is a step in the right direction. It improves the quality of existing processes and addresses the issues or challenges faced by educational systems and make us better managers.
