Emotional Intelligence in Sportspersons and Non-Sportspersons

Abstract

Emotional intelligent is an ability of an individual to feel, observe and recognize his/her emotions. In other words, it can be described as “an innate potential of a person to realize, comprehend, identify,utilize, understand and interpret the emotion”. It helps to improve health by avoiding stress that would otherwise results from suppressing emotions. It also helps to improve relationship since inappropriate behaviour is less likely to be expressed and appropriate behaviour cannot be avoided. A sample size of 200 was chosen (100 Sportspersons and 100 Non-Sportspersons) from various institutes located in Belagavi city Emotional Intelligence Inventory (English) by Dr. S. K. Mangal and Mrs. ShubhraMangal was used. Mean, SD and t- test were carried out to make comparison between the sample groups. The analysis of the results showed there is a significant difference in Emotional Intelligence of Sportspersons and Non-Sportspersons.
