Abstract

In the present study, green synthesis of bimetallic silver and copper nanoparticles were carried out using Majoranahortensis aqueous leaf extract. The Majoranahortensis (M.) belongs to Labiatae family and is indigenous to Mediterranean countries [1]. It is used as carminative, antiseptic, antispasmodic, stimulant, and as nerve tonic   in traditional medicinal systems of India. It is also used for muscle pain, muscle rheumatism, arthritis, cold, bronchitis, cough, blood circulation, and low blood pressure.   Majoranahortensiswas leaves were  collected from a garden in Nalgonda, India and used as reducing agent in present investigation. The nanoparticles were characterized using UV-visible spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectra, Scanning electron microscopy, Transmission electron microscopy, XRD and Raman spectroscopy.   The XRD spectra  showed the presence of main diffraction peaks for silver and copper nanoparticles are observed in all the XRD patterns of silver and copper nanoparticles at around 2Ѳ=28.5ᶿ, 30ᶿ and 40ᶿ corresponds to pure phase of silver and copper nanoparticles. The EDAX results indicated the presence of silver and copper in required proportions. The particles were found to have an average size of 10 nm and are spherical in shape. The synthesised nanoparticles were evaluated for their biological activity.  The results will be discussed in full paper.
