This abstract examines holistic midwifery care provided during unplanned home births, focusing on the case of Mrs M, who gave birth at home without prior intention to do so. The study is relevant as unplanned home births present unique risks, particularly in rural areas where access to healthcare facilities may be limited. This paper highlights the importance of continuous midwifery care in mitigating risks. Despite policies encouraging deliveries in healthcare facilities, some women still experience unplanned home births, posing significant health risks for both the mother and newborn. This paper addresses How midwives can provide adequate care during unplanned home births, and what challenges arise in these situations. While previous research has focused on planned home births or hospital deliveries, this study uniquely explores the holistic care required in unplanned home births, where healthcare access is minimal and immediate medical intervention may be delayed. This gap in research highlights the need for a thorough investigation of midwifery interventions in unplanned settings. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method, collecting primary data from interviews with Mrs. M and her attending midwife, supplemented by secondary data from medical records and relevant literature. Data was gathered through interviews, physical examinations, and observations. The findings reveal that Mrs M experienced a second-degree perineal rupture due to the absence of healthcare support during labour. However, timely intervention by the attending midwife helped manage postpartum risks and prevent further complications for both the mother and newborn. The study concludes that holistic midwifery care is essential in managing the risks associated with unplanned home births. Strengthening midwives' preparedness and educating women on the importance of facility-based deliveries are key to improving outcomes, as midwives play a vital role in minimizing risks during unplanned home births through timely and skilled care.
