Biomedical is a field of science that focuses on how the areas of chemistry and biology is applied on the health care or public health. Biomed includes plenty of topics in it mainly bioengineering, physiological sciences and life sciences. As biomedical sciences combine both biology and medicine in order to focus on the health of both animals and humans, it covers anatomical and histological structures, epidemiology, biochemical and physiological functions and pharmacology.
Cancer is a disease where the abnormal cells in the body grow, multiply and spread all over the body. Cancer is caused by many factors; it may be genetic or environmental. Some of the risk factors for causing cancer are smoking and alcohol consumption, exposure to toxic chemicals for extended period, exposure to certain viruses, through genes, genetic disorders or may be due to combination of these factors. Cancer can be diagnosed by few tests i.e., Tumour biopsy, Complete blood count, Bone marrow aspiration, Spinal tap (lumbar puncture), Bone scans, PET-CT (positron emission tomography and CT scans) etc. Treatment for certain cancers may include Chemotherapy, Radiation therapy, Surgery, Targeted therapy, Immunotherapy, Bone marrow transplant, Placement of a central line.
