Abstract
Introduction: Human papilloma Virus is the necessary but not sufficient cause of cervical cancer all around the world. Vaccination is considered as the primary way to prevent cervical cancer. Bangladesh government is providing a bivalent HPV vaccine containing HPV 16 and 18 3 for the children of age 10-14 years 11 old. This study was to observe the predominant serotypes of HPV virus among Bangladeshi women and contain HPV 16 and 18.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to find out the predominant genotypes of HPV to determine the importance of screening while observe and quantify the prevalence of HPV infection in our country alongside the related factors related to HPV infection.General objective: find out the prevalent genotypes of HPV and observe other factors related to HPV infection.Specific objective: compare the genotypes with that of the current vaccine and the necessity of screening by HPV DNA test.
Methods: This was a Descriptive Observational Quantitative study. The data was collected from the prescriptions and the reports of the patients those came to the chamber of a renowned gynecologist. The qualitative and the quantitative data was analyzed by the physicians and statisticians.
Results: Among the 244 sample collected, 38 patients were positive for HPV genotype, 18 of them were genotype 16, 5 genotype 52, 3 genotype 68, 3 genotype 51, 2 women had 56, 2 had genotype 18,1 each had genotype 39,45 and 66. Regular cervical cancer screening is strongly recommended even if the woman have been vaccinated against HPV, as our vaccine ‘Cervarix 1’ do not cover all the genotypes of the HPV found in the cervical sample of the women of our country.
