Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to determine the association between socioeconomic factors that affecting the polio vaccination coverage among children in Pakistan. The child vaccinations are one of most cost effective health programs that have weakened a number of child morbidity and mortality rate all over the world. Pakistan is considered one of the major country of the world, where people, especially, children are bound by many harmful infectious diseases like polio, hepatitis and viral infections. The effectiveness of routine childhood immunization programs relies on multiple factors. Socioeconomic determinants have the potential to affect immunization programs. Children under five years of age constitute about 15% of the population of most developing countries. An estimated 12.2 million deaths occur in this age group every year, and young children in these countries have a higher probability of death. Most of the deaths occur from infectious diseases that is diarrhoeal diseases, acute respiratory infections, measles, and malaria. The present study is investigated that socioeconomic factors that impacts on polio vaccination coverage as upper class people and people of higher educational background had better knowledge of communicable diseases and its prevention through vaccination. Age is an important indicator of the defining awareness level of parents regarding immunization. Most importantly, in Pakistani patriarchal setup male children are recipient of vaccination more than female children. Quantitative method will be used to collect the data from the respondents.
