Neurology is the study of structure, diseases and function of nervous system which includes spinal cord, brain and nerves. The nervous system is a highly complex system which transmits the electrical signals to and from different parts of the body. Nervous System is divided in to two main parts: 1) Central Nervous System - which includes brain and spinal cord, 2) Peripheral Nervous System - which include nerves that control voluntary and involuntary movements.
Neurologist is a Physician who diagnoses and treats neurological disorders. Neurological disorders are the one that affect the brain and the nerves found throughout the body and spinal cord. Pains, Difficulties with memory, Numbness, Sleep issues, Partial or complete loss of vision are the common symptoms of neurological disorders. Physical examination, CT scan, Electroencephaolography (EEG), MRI, Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Evoked potential, Arteriogram, Spinal tap, Myelogram are some of the diagnostic test for neurological and spinal disorders. Treatments for neurological disorders include medicines such as anti-inflammatory, rehabilitation using physical therapy to strengthen and stretch back the abdominal muscles, surgery to replace the disc,  Spinal cord stimulation, Deep brain stimulation etc. Some of the common Neurological disorders includes Headache, Epilepsy and Seizures, Stroke, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer’s disease, Dementia and Parkinson disease. Some Spine disorders include Arthritis, Degenerative disc disease, Spinal stenosis, Spondylosis, Scoliosis, Kyphosis, Spondylitis, Back pain, Basilar invagination, Basilar impression, Cranial settling, Osteoporosis, Vertebral fractures.

Psychiatry is a medical specialty that deals with diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illness, abnormal behavior and emotional disturbance. Common types of mental disorders include depression, anxiety, Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Bipolar disorder, Schizophrenia, Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Psychological disorders are caused due to genitical and family history, brain injury, chemical imbalances in the brain, stressful life experiences. These disorders can be diagnosed by Imaging test (Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain and Positron emission tomography (PET) scan of the brain), Electroencephalogram (EEG), Lab tests such as blood and urine tests. Psychological disorders can be treated by antianxiety and antidepressant medications to improve moods, counselling, Recreational therapies, Complementary therapies (e.g., yoga or meditation), group therapy etc.

Mental Health is a state of well-being, which involves changes in emotion, thinking or behavior (or a combination of these) where every individual has to cope up with the stresses of life knowing their own potential. The main causes of mental illness include genetics, environment, childhood abuse or trauma, severe stress, experiencing discrimination and stigma, bereavement, unemployment or losing a job, drugs and alcohol consumption etc. We can treat mental illness with psychotherapy where it explores the thoughts, behavior and feelings of the individual to improve their well-being. Psychotherapy paired with medication helps in quick recovery.
