Knowledge Attitude and Practice towards Ultrasound scan during pregnancy among Sudanese pregnant ladies attending Rabak teaching hospitals, Sudan, White nile State, Rabak 2019

Abstract

Introduction: Ultrasound is the principal imaging modality used in obstetrics, indeed diagnostic ultrasound is used to screen all pregnancies in most developed countries. it is used to diagnose ,date pregnancies , chart antenatal growth of the fetus and to identify congenital abnormalities.
Materials and methods: this was a descriptive  cross sectional hospital based study  conducted in  Rabak teaching hospital, white nile state, Sudan, march 2019, simple random sampling technique with(51) sample size and with usage of  a researcher administered questionnaire with opened and closed ended questions to assess knowledge , attitude and practice of  ultrasound scan among pregnant ladies.
Results: in this study half the of participants was on age group (20-25) years regarding the  educational level 47.1% of them was primary school, 27% secondary and only 9.8% of them was graduated and 15% was illiterate. 92% were housewives and only 8% working.43.1% multipara and 31.4% grandmultipara. Regarding knowledge and awareness of women about ultrasound scan in pregnancy were found fairly good, 76.45%women know that ultrasound done to assess the  growth  of the baby as first important reason ,almost 100%of them agreed that US is essential investigation during pregnancy , 94.12% of them agreed it safe procedure ,the source of information in 76.4% of them from was doctors,21.75% inform from relative and friends ,1.96 % from media.
Conclusion: There is considerable awareness regarding ultrasound during pregnancy and good attitude and practice toward it among most of the participants.
